Artist Bio & Statement

Robert Tatro is a Florida-based artist originally from western Massachusetts. With a background in illustration and graduate study in art history, he works in oil painting and digital imagery, exploring botanical subjects, landscapes, and portraiture.

His interests include the light and atmosphere of American landscape painting, the close observation of botanical subjects, and expressive approaches to color and composition. Alongside his paintings, he develops digital images through Procreate sketches and AI-assisted refinement using Canva and ChatGPT. Across these different processes, his work brings together observation, imagination, and an ongoing study of how images are constructed.

Contact Me

I paint because it’s what I do. Painting has been part of my life for years, and that simple answer carries a lot: my education, my family’s connection to art, and the time I’ve spent learning to see and make things for myself.

I’m drawn to light, color, atmosphere, and the way a composition moves your eye. A flower can hold my attention as much as a landscape or a face. Working in oils gives me time to look closely, make adjustments, and let a painting develop.

My digital images give me another way to work through ideas. I began making them through sketches in Procreate, then developing and refining them with AI prompts using Canva and ChatGPT. I continue shaping them through choices about imagery, arrangement, and revision.

The subjects and tools vary, but the work comes from the same impulse: something catches my attention, and I want to give it a form.
